Dreamy weekend at Dream Village Hideaway: relaxation and nature at its best

With this article about an absolutely spectacular accommodation I recently discovered, I am starting a series of articles dedicated to more special accommodations in Romania. Admittedly, we prefer to travel around Romania more by tent, but we won't say no to a more relaxing and carefree weekend. And since there's not much to camp anywhere in winter, we're choosing accommodation to discover even more of our country.

Because of my name day, which I wanted to spend with my extended family, I started looking for spacious accommodation for all of us. It was quite difficult to find accommodation for 8 people at this busy time of the year, where we would all be very comfortable and within a reasonable distance from home. So I widened my search from the Rucar-Bran area further north, and came across this heaven place, literally. A hidden gem of Romania found on Airbnb, at a very good price for how many people we were and for the time after New Year.

Where is this accommodation located?

The accommodation is in the extremely small and intimate village of Chedia Mare, in the Harghita county, right in the middle of the country. The Harghita area is spectacular, full of sights and extremely under-promoted. It has many specific customs, extremely delicious dishes borrowed from Hungarian culture and it is a pity to remain undiscovered.

I thought the cottage was very well positioned, with a huge courtyard, on the hill where you can see a little of the village. The small settlements next to it and the whole atmosphere of a traditional village, give a homely vibe. de altă dată.

Accommodation facilities

The whole description from Airbnb and from their site is exactly what you'll find in the little cottage, all the pictures on Airbnb are exactly the same as the reality. Most of the time the pictures are better than reality and we might be disappointed when we get there. But that's not the case here.

So, Dream Village Hideaway it has 5 double bedrooms, 2 downstairs and 3 upstairs, 2 bathrooms, one each downstairs and upstairs, and one on the terrace, a huge and absolutely gorgeous kitchen, dining area for 10-12 people, an extremely spacious living room with cozy fireplace, terrace with barbecue, a very large courtyard, spa area with sauna and a huge hot tub. I'd say that's more than enough.

For me, the kitchen had a big say when choosing the accommodation, maybe how it was designed, maybe the color of pistachio green or perhaps the integration of vintage furniture into the whole story, made me adore this kitchen. In fact, that's exactly what I liked so much: in all the rooms I noticed this mix between the vintage furniture, refurbished, and the new, modern one. But this incorporation is done with great taste and attention to detail.

The fireplace gave a feel-good vibe to the whole group, a family vibe and we turned it on every evening, not necessarily for warmth, but more for the nice feeling we had watching it while playing a board game.

In addition to all you can see around, you'll have two activities to occupy your evenings. What better way to end the day than a chilly evening at the hot tub, and resting from the hot tub, you get inside the dry sauna? If you're lucky and it's snowing or there are already huge snowdrifts in the yard, it's actually a dreamy picture. Even without the snow, which was very hard to be spotted this winter, evenings at the hot tub were well worth it. One thing that I really liked was that the hot tub was very roomy and was at floor level, the scenery seemed to be seen differently from below.

Tourist sights in the area

I would say that the area is extremely attractive in terms of sights, not so popular within the tourists. We've been here several times on various other weekends away from home, so this time we just went to Sighișoara for a short walk through the citadel. Sighișoara is a very beautiful town, offering a glimpse into medieval times, which we always go back to if we're in the area, and now being only 40 minutes away, it was a pity not to go.

From the village, there is also a trail, which we hiked a bit to the highest nearby hill to admire the view. But we followed the road and it looks like it would be a very long trail that also leads to a fishing lake in the nearby village. Worth a try if the road is not muddy, as it was in our case. You can take bikes from the accommodation and roam all the nearby hills.

Another place I wish we could have seen was Statue of the heart of Jesus, which is 45 minutes away from the accommodation. You can also choose to spend a few hours sightseeing Odorheiu Secuiesc, which is near the statue. Another interesting place is The museum of straw hats which is also 45 minutes away from the accommodation. A little further on, almost an hour away is Praid Saline which is worth putting on your list if you're in the area.

Also, you're sure to find numerous trails around the area being a hill and a mountain area. One thing we didn't know about until we arrived at the accommodation and read in the hosts' brochure, is that you can participate in nature watching of the bears. But ask your hosts for more details and they will direct you to the organization you need to speak to in order to reserve your place in advance.

Oh, and if you go back to Bucharest or Brasov, make sure to put Viscri, , on your list because which is a treasure of the Saxon village. Of course the whole Transilvania is full of Saxon villages, fortresses and gothic churches that are worth a visit, but it's better to return to the same area several times and see it again with different eyes. Just as I, now, the second time in Viscri, found it much more beautiful.

Conclusion

For me, Dream Village Hideaway has reached the top of the list of accommodations in Romania, even the first place! Although it is further away from Bucharest, 5 hours drive, it was well worth it and we will definitely come back here. I recommend to get here, choose this cottage or the other one that the hosts own, Serene Village Hideaway, and you will agree with me. It will be a dream short getaway with family or friends.

Everything has a story here and it's a beautiful story. A superb combination of the creativity of the hosts and their attention to the house that translates into attention to detail for the tourists. I was very impressed and consider it to be authentic and a special Romanian accommodation. Let me know how you find it and please, leave me in the comments other unique accommodations worth visiting. I am curious to get to even more of Romania's hidden places.
